• San Diego's May 2026 bulletin explicitly includes energy storage in electrical permitting and asks for equipment specifications and location information. Its detailed limits are local requirements, not a national sizing rule.
• Start a project file with the system you actually intend to install. Ask the installer to identify the approval path for the proposed battery location, backup circuits and existing solar equipment.
• A later battery addition is a change to the original proposal. Before expanding, ask whether the existing drawings and utility agreement must be revised.

• Does the plan address any vehicle exposure and manufacturer installation conditions?
• Which circuits will operate during an outage, and where is that shown in the design?
• Who records final approval and any utility permission before normal operation?

Storage rules depend on adopted electrical, residential and fire codes, system design and local utility requirements. This guide concerns fixed building-connected systems, not ordinary portable power banks.
